#314 - Which means what?
Two people, the same three values, opposite decisions. The words were never the problem.
STUFF I'VE WRITTEN
- Which means what?. Why a value only starts working at the sentence you write after it.
- Also this week: Why does my CV get rejected immediately?. That two-hour rejection probably wasn't a robot, and what you could try instead.
- From the Archive: Free Habit Tracker Template. If the practice behind a value has lapsed, this is the unglamorous way back.
STUFF I'M READING
- You should never be angry at work. Anger usually means you care. It also costs you every ally you needed.
- Nice is for you. Kind is for them. Truth is the salt, grace is the caramel. Graham Allcott on why "too nice" is a complaint and "too kind" never is.
- I am often wrong. Boris Cherny's six-step note to his team. Most plans fail at step three, defining the problem.
- The race to the bottom feels inevitable. Seth Godin on why the trouble with racing to the bottom is that you might win.
- Drifting off mid-page is not the problem. Not noticing for two more pages is. How to focus in reading. Read to the next subheading, then say it back in one sentence.
- The tiny tasks til ten method. Do everything under ten minutes until ten o'clock, then stop and start the real work. I do a version of this, almost subconsciously, by giving myself 'momentum' in the morning.
STUFF I'M LINKING
- Local Wikipedia. Wikipedia, but only for things within a half hour walk of you.
- Railpass. Stare out of the window of a train ride that never ends, from real footage. I love train rides, some of these are great fun!
Finally. Lost Marbles. Fifty marbles race down a wooden track in a giant bedroom. Ten are cut at every checkpoint. Be the last one rolling.
