282: The Return on Generosity
Most professionals want people in their corner. Far fewer ask whether they are doing the things that earns their support.
A wider surface area increases the number of people thinking about you positively when you are not in the room. It compounds quietly over time. And the fastest way to build it is also the one many people skip.
Investing in others. Mentoring. Sponsoring. Getting in someone else's corner before you need anyone in yours.
That requires something that competitive drive tends to squeeze out.
Humility.
Cultivating genuine curiosity about other people's progress. A willingness to make someone else the main character for a while.
The return is real. It just takes longer than most people are willing to wait.
