One Year. One Review. Endless Growth.
Are you feeling ready to close out the year? Perhaps you're wondering how much you've really accomplished, or what direction you should take next. An annual review process is good way to take stock of the year.
An annual review isn't just a corporate exercise. It's a powerful personal development tool.
Done the right way, it can give you clarity, confidence, and a plan for the year ahead. Whether you’re celebrating your wins or learning from your challenges, this review will help you reflect, reframe, and realign your path.
In this post, I’ll guide you through the same detailed and introspective exercise that I do to perform a thorough personal annual review.
Why Do a Personal Annual Review?
Before we dive into the exercise, let's talk about why this matters. I use my personal annual review to do the following:
- To Celebrate Progress: We often forget our achievements. Reflecting helps us acknowledge how far we've come.
- To Learn from our Challenges: Reviewing obstacles helps extract lessons so we don’t repeat the same patterns.
- To Set Intentional Goals: With a clear picture of where we've been, we can set more intentional and realistic goals for the year ahead.
I always enjoy taking the time to check in, celebrate, and course-correct.
Your future self will thank you for completing a review like this.
