#66 - From Dublin
Updates
Another week sitting with the uncertainty of layoffs at work. It's a strange headspace to operate in. You can't fully commit to long-term projects. But I also can't just stop. So we show up and do the work in front of us.
On the flip side, I've been investing a huge amount of time this week working on agentic workflows with my team. Genuinely exciting stuff that is also full of traps. Process redesign sounds straightforward until you're knee-deep in it and realising that the thing you're trying to automate was never as simple as you thought. Andrej Karpathy's framing of this landed at the right time.
Last weekend I put together a new DJ mix for the radio in the UK - you can listen to all my mixes up to date here on mixcloud.
No quiz again this week. The break continues, we start again on Wednesday night with Season 19 of the Online Quiz League. Ready to get back into it.
Watched Man on Fire (season 1) on Netflix. A remake of the Denzel Washington film, this time set in Brazil with a lot of scenes in Portuguese. The action sequences are excellent. If you liked the original, this is a different enough take to be worth your time.
Reading. Loves Executioner by Irvin Yalom - a recommendation from a friend, Therapy case studies written like short stories. Not light, but hard to put down.
Recommended Music
After last weeks shortened band name, this week I've been enjoying a mash-up portmanteau of two bands who are working together to create something very interesting.
Nine Inch Noize is a collaboration between Trent Reznors Nine Inch Nails, and the DJ known as Boyz Noize for a dancefloor/rave interpretation of tracks from NiN.
I went to see Nine Inch Nails in Dublin last year, and Boyz Noize were part of the show, as the warm-up act, but also in a collaborative mini-set - the changes to the tracks made them more danceable and urgent.
This isn't easy, relaxing listening - but there are some almighty bangers on here.
Highly Recommended.
