Updates

A week that moved fast! Work has been full-on with a lot of plates spinning, and most of the week was spent prepping for a trip to Austin. Pre-travel weeks always have that slightly frantic energy where you're trying to close things out before you leave while also getting your head around what's coming.

Monday night we went to see The Stranger at the IFI in Dublin. A beautiful adaptation of the Albert Camus book. If you haven't seen it, very highly recommended. The kind of film that stays with you on the walk back to the station.

Also caught I Swear on Netflix last night. Another excellent film, and the BAFTA win for Best Actor was well deserved. Two strong films in one week feels like a good return.

Quiz night on Wednesday. A narrow win against a big handicap, which is the best kind. There's something satisfying about grinding out a result when the numbers are stacked against you.

I popped into Dublin yesterday to see my favourite vinyl stockist during Record Store Day 2026, and picked up a few nice bits including a new Turin Brakes Live Acoustic album, and an absolute blast from the past by the brilliant Furniture. I know that RSD is not everyones cup of tea, but I love seeing busy record shops.

The highlight this week though was a new espresso machine - a Lelit Elizabeth (for the coffee nerds). I've spent an unreasonable amount of time this week dialling in grind size, milk temperature, and pour technique. Turns out making a decent flat white is genuinely harder than it looks. I'm not good yet, but I'm committed. Backup career: under consideration.

Reading. Dance Move by Wendy Erskine, a collection of short stories.

This weeks recommendation is from Sad Man - who is billed as 'relentlessly obscure and prolific British music maker' - right up my strasse.

'The Dance' is excellent - sitting somewhere in between kosmiche and the dancefloor in places with some traces of relaxing ambience as well.

According to Spotify, Sad Man has 21 monthly listeners. I 100% think that should be a lot more.

Highly Recommended.
