Unlocking Wellness and Creativity: Exploring Apple's AI-Powered Journaling App in iOS 17.2

Apple have released their journal application, powered by AI and delivered with IOS 17.2.  The new tool was first spoken about in June, and arrived on phones this week with the latest OS refresh.

Journaling is a practice that can improve your wellbeing. It is also a great way to focus on professional or creative development.

Journal allows users to capture thoughts in a digital diary. These entries can include text, voice notes or recent videos or pictures.  Journal also generates prompts or suggestions using AI to inspire your journalling practice.

Open the app and tap the + button at the bottom of the page to get selection of recent photos and a few suggestions.  These reflections can be refreshed if they don’t feel appropriate. You can start a new blank entry by tapping the button at the top.

From there, it’s a familiar screen that allows you to capture your thoughts.  I’m going to using this to continue my gratitude practice, which currently sits in an Apple Note.

Apple make it easy to set up reminders so that you can schedule entries. I like to journal gratitude at the start of every day, so I’ve set a reminder to keep that practice regular.

Finally, you can add to your entry by including content from other apps into your journal. These could include music from Apple Music, Spotify or workouts from Apple Fitness.

Journal is a strong addition to the standard applications. Integrations with other apps, as well as reminders and notifications are excellent.

I hope it will inspire people to begin a journalling practice.
